A Romance is the story of the mutual liberation of a pair of lovers from a false sense of self that joins them and empowers them to take on their world. The marriage plot is the story of a girl's getting married in which the girl comes into that particular conflict with the hero that leads her to grow. You will find examples both of how contemporary writers use these devices in popular, commercial fiction, and of how other writers from the centuries-old tradition of heroine-centered texts have used the same devices.
